BLOOMFIELD — With all six of their regular varsity players in the line-up on Tuesday, the Davis County girls tennis team used a pair of impressive comebacks to clinch a win in its home opener on Tuesday.
The Mustangs pulled out a pair of wins by two games, including comeback wins in two of the nine matches to secure a 7-2 victory over Fort Madison. Alexis Bragg clinched the dual for Davis County, winning the final five games of the No. 6 singles match against Avery Bousselot to earn a 9-7 victory, giving the Mustangs five wins in six singles matches.
"I was glad to see every girl on the team either win a match in singles or doubles," Davis County head tennis coach Tucker Henderson said. "It will provide our girls with a lot of confidence moving forward this season."
Olivia Robinson, making her debut for the season after having to miss Davis County's first dual of the season at Keokuk last week, shook off an 8-3 loss in the top singles match to Lucille Zimmerman teaming up with Kolbi Haskell with earn a 9-7 win in the top doubles match. Robinson and Haskell had to overcome a 4-1 deficit against Zimmerman and Mikah Washington.
"Olivia had some rust and some nerves that she was dealing with in her first meet of the season," Henderson said of Robinson. "I think she got both worked out towards the middle of the doubles match."
Davis County (1-1) is back on the court at Burlington-Notre Dame on Wednesday.
