SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (CANARIES) — Garrett Martin struck out a season-high seven and the Canaries had a four-run lead during the seventh inning stretch but Winnipeg scored eight unanswered runs to top the Birds 10-6 on Tuesday.
Joe Vos and Mike Hart drew back-to-back two-out walks in the third inning and scored on a three-run homerun from Grady Mee. An RBI double and a sacrifice groundout in the bottom of the fourth brought the Goldeyes within 3-2 but Josh Rehwaldt homered with a runner on base in the sixth inning and Hart added an RBI single in the seventh.
Winnipeg, though, answered with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and scored four more times in the eighth to take the lead for good.
Six different Canaries finished with a hit as the Birds dip to 39-36 overall. The two teams resume their three-game series Wednesday at 6:30pm.
