The West Indies secured a rare double at the ICC Player of the Month awards for July, 2026, with all-rounders Justin Greaves and Hayley Matthews recognised for outstanding performances in Test and one-day international cricket. Greaves won his maiden men's award after a decisive month against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, while Matthews claimed the women's prize for a record fifth time following a prolific tour of Ireland. The awards mark the first time West Indies players have won both honours in the same month and only the fifth such instance since the awards were introduced in January 2021. Previous double winners were India's Jasprit Bumrah and Smriti Mandhana in June 2024, Sri Lanka's Dunith Wellalage and Harshitha Samarawickrama in August 2024, India's Abhishek Sharma and Mandhana in September 2025, and South Africa's Senuran Muthusami and Laura Wolvaardt in October 2025. Greaves finished ahead of England captain Harry Brook and Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan after starring in the West Indies' home Test programme. He scored 180 in the second Test against Sri Lanka at North Sound after the visitors had posted 549 for nine, helping the hosts secure a 1-0 series victory in the two-match World Test Championship series. Against Pakistan in Trinidad, Greaves claimed five for 27 and two for 12 as the West Indies secured a 90-run victory. "I have had a memorable month playing at home, and to have contributed with both bat and ball against Sri Lanka and Pakistan has been particularly special for me," Greaves said. Matthews, meanwhile, was named ahead of England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and Sri Lanka's Harshitha Samarawickrama after a dominant series in Ireland. She scored 265 runs at an average of 132.50 and a strike rate of 117.25, including centuries in the first two matches as the West Indies completed a 3-0 series sweep. Matthews also took seven wickets at an average of 17.57 and an economy rate of 4.10, claiming at least two wickets in each match. "I am thrilled to win the ICC Player of the Month award once again," Matthews said. "It is just as special as the previous ones."
