The Canada senior women's basketball team won the FIBA Women's Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament on Sunday night at Arena Astros.
Parchment, a 6-foot-3 sophomore forward on the Illinois women's basketball team, played 9 minutes, 26 seconds in Canada's 83-53 victory against host Mexico. Parchment finished the final by scoring eight points and pulling down three rebounds. Parchment and Team Canada went 5-0 at the event, earning an automatic berth into the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments, and in the process, took a first major step toward playing in the Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.
Parchment was 3 of 5 from the field, including a pair of made three-pointers, in her team's 30-point win as Canada led Mexico 47-26 at halftime. Parchment had a solid tournament as one of the key reserves for Canada, with of the WNBA's Toronto Tempo as the starting center for coach .
The 19-year-old Parchment averaged 4.8 points and 3.4 rebounds in Canada's five games, which included wins over Senegal, the Philippines and Mexico in group play followed by an 86-71 semifinal victory against New Zealand and Sunday's blowout of Mexico in the final in a rematch.
's Illini were also represented by two other players at the pre-qualifying tournament, as junior guard and redshirt junior center played for Brazil, which lost 83-64 to Mexico in a semifinal game on Saturday night.
Guyton and Vasconcelos did not play in that semifinal matchup with Mexico, however.
Guyton, a 5-7 Illinois guard, had averaged 15.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists in Brazil's three group play games, while Vasconcelos, a 6-7 Illini center, produced 1.0 points and 2.3 rebounds during her three games in Guadalajara.
