Hamilton admits he went too far with Dutch GP radio frustration

Lewis Hamilton has publicly apologised to Ferrari and the team’s fans for his radio outbursts during the Dutch Grand Prix, explaining that his frustration stemmed from his determination to secure a strong result for the Scuderia.

The Briton showed his frustration during the race after repeatedly asking the Ferrari pit wall to let him through while running behind his teammate, with the two drivers on different strategies at that stage. Spending several laps behind ultimately cost Hamilton valuable time, which proved decisive in his battle with George Russell for the final podium position.

Through a post shared on his social media channels, the seven-time world champion reflected on a challenging weekend for Ferrari, but remained encouraged by the progress the team is making. While recognising that Ferrari still have work to do, particularly when it comes to their one-lap pace, Hamilton believes the team are heading in the right direction.

"A tough weekend, but we leave with valuable points for the team and signs that we’re moving in the right direction. I’m incredibly proud of everyone back at the factory who continues to bring updates, find performance and push us forward. To the team at the track, thank you. The commitment and effort never go unnoticed. We still have work to do, particularly over one lap, but we’ll keep digging in, learning and improving together."

He then addressed his radio and television comments from the weekend, admitting that his frustration had got the better of him in the heat of the moment. Hamilton took responsibility for his reaction and acknowledged that he could have handled the situation differently, while explaining that his emotions came from his strong belief in Ferrari and his determination to help the team succeed.

"I’ve listened back to some of my radio and TV comments. In the heat of the moment frustration can come out, especially when you care as deeply as I do. But that wasn’t the best version of me. I take responsibility for that, and I’ll be better. That passion comes from believing in this team, the people in it, and what we’re building together. The direction is clear. The belief is there. And the fight is absolutely still on."

"Thank you for sticking with us and with me. We’ll keep building, keep pushing and keep fighting. We’re coming."

Despite his visible frustration over the radio, Hamilton’s assessment after the race was more measured. The Ferrari driver focused on the encouraging aspects of the weekend, pointing to the team’s execution and the steps forward made with the car, while making clear that performance remains on the table, particularly in terms of straight-line speed.

However, the race itself left Hamilton with a sense of missed opportunity. Traffic at a crucial stage prevented him from making the most of his pace and, in his view, played a part in keeping him out of podium contention. It added to a run of weekends in which Ferrari have not always been able to fully capitalise on their potential.

Hamilton nevertheless remains confident in the project and believes Ferrari have the foundations to fight for the championship. His focus is now on helping the team continue its development and turn its recent progress into a genuine championship challenge.
