Hector Fort bids emotional farewell to Barcelona: ‘I am and always will be a Culer’

Barcelona confirmed that they had reached an agreement for the transfer of Hector Fort to Real Sociedad this summer.

The 20-year-old defender has said goodbye to Barcelona with an emotional message, bringing an end to a journey that began when he was just seven years old.

The young defender reflected on his deep connection with Barça, having been born only a short distance from the Spotify Camp Nou and grown up in Les Corts before spending 13 years wearing the club’s colours.

Fort says goodbye to his boyhood club

“I was born just a few metres from the Camp Nou, into a family and a neighbourhood that feel the colours of this club like no other,” Fort wrote in his farewell message.

He then looked back to the beginning of his journey at Barcelona.

“At seven years old, everything started for that kid from Les Corts who played in the square and ended up wearing the shirt of the club he had always felt was his.”

Fort made it clear that reaching the first team was not simply a professional milestone, but the fulfilment of a family dream.

“There are no words to express what it has meant for me to have had the luck to fulfil the dream of my family and, of course, mine.”

Thirteen years wearing the Barcelona badge

He recalled joining Barcelona at seven and described representing the first team as the fulfilment of both his own dream and that of his family.

“Wearing these colours, winning titles and carrying this badge on my chest for 13 years has been one of the most beautiful things that has happened to me in life, because I am and always will be a Culer,” he added.

Fort also thanked those who helped him throughout his development and the supporters who continued to back him during his time at the club.

“Thank you very much to everyone who has been part of these years, to the people who supported me without hesitation and to those who continue supporting me every day.”

Fort leaves, but Barcelona stays with him

The final part of his message focused on the next step in his career.

“Now it is time to continue my path away from home, but I will always carry with me the values of Barça, everything this club has taught me and the pride of having grown up here,” he revealed.

He closed with a simple but emotional goodbye: “See you soon, Culers. Visca el Barça!”

Fort was widely regarded as one of the biggest talents coming through La Masia, but he has broken through at a time when there is immense competition in the first team.

Although the Spaniard has always impressed with his limited first-team opportunities, at 20, he would want to be at a club where he gets regular game time.

Real Sociedad are the perfect club for Fort to continue his development. With regular minutes and a settled base, he could go on to become the player that his potential suggests.

Barcelona retain significant control over the 20-year-old’s future and, as Fort puts it, this might be a “see you soon” rather than a “goodbye”. It remains to be seen how the youngster gets on at the Basque club.
