Hendrick Motorsports has found a new driver for the 2028 NASCAR Cup Series season. Earlier in the week, Hendrick Motorsports revealed that Connor Zilisch will drive the No. 48 car in 2028. It was a massive announcement, as Zilisch is one of the most talented up-and-coming drivers in the world.
During a press conference, Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick was asked about the possibility of another Indianapolis 500. However, instead of Kyle Larson, it would be Zilisch. This doesn't appear to be a scenario that Hendrick is pursuing.
“I’m done with that," Hendrick said with a laugh. "I’ve learned to never say never, but it would take a lot of convincing for me to do that again.”
The logistics behind the Indianapolis 500 were very tough with Larson and Hendrick Motorsports, which doesn't make it a surprise. However, Zilisch would love to compete in the Indianapolis 500 down the line. While Zilisch would likely have permission, Hendrick Motorsports may not be in the mindset of entering the event.
