ARDMORE, Pa. — One of the many unique aspects of the U.S. Amateur is the 36-hole final match on Sunday. A marathon day that features just two golfers on the course and thousands following just behind them in the fairways and around the greens.
Of course, the two finalists don't just plow through the 18th hole of the morning session and head straight back to the first tee. There is an hour lunch break in between, and while there is a buffet available to members, spectators with clubhouse passes and the competitors' caddie and family and friends, the two finalists get to order whatever they want from the host club.
Jay Leng Jr., who leads Jack Whaley 2 up after 18 holes, darted left into the player hospitality area of the clubhouse, opting for a more private lunch setting. Whaley veered right, eating in a more common area for USGA volunteers, employees, media and spectators. Whaley scoped out the buffet shortly, grabbing a Coca Cola before heading back to the table with his parents, girlfriend and a few Florida State teammates.

While everyone around him ate from the buffet, Whaley scrolled his phone and awaited his meal. First came a plate of fruit that he and his girlfriend immediately began deleting. Next was a few large pieces of grilled chicken and what appeared to be pasta with butter.
Back inside the clubhouse, Leng's meal came out - a medium rare ribeye with white rice and vegetables. As for the drink, Leng apparently made a special request for apple juice. Neither player ordered any dessert, which we can only assume will have to wait until later this evening.
The second 18 will begin at 2:05 p.m. ET.
