Here's a look at how area teams fared in Week 1 of the South Carolina high school football season.
Strom Thurmond 21, North Augusta 7Strom Thurmond opened up the season with its first victory over North Augusta since 2022 as running back Zy Rouse rushed for two touchdowns, and Preston Holmes brought in a third on a kickoff return in the fourth quarter.
The Jackets look to bounce back at home against Lexington (0-1) on Aug. 28, while the Rebels head on the road to play Abbeville (1-0)
South Aiken 59, Silver Bluff 6The T-Breds showed their growth from last season with a dominant victory over the Bulldogs, who were hoping to bring in the Lemuel Lackey era with a win. Despite the loss, Silver Bluff did avoid the shutout with a late touchdown.
South Aiken quarterback Tommy Burns III finished with four passing touchdowns, two of which were early in the game to standout Kyson McLeod.
The T-Breds will take on former region foe Airport (1-0) on the road in week two, while Silver Bluff will stay on the road to play Fox Creek (0-1), Lackey’s former team, on Aug. 28.
Aiken 31, Lakeside 7The Hornets needed a win to open up the 2026 season after struggling last season, and they got exactly that when Lakeside came to town in week one.
After jumping out to a 14-0 lead by halftime, Aiken only continued to lay it on in the second half, adding two more touchdowns and a field goal.
Swansea (0-1) will host Aiken on Aug. 28 in Week 2.
Midland Valley 49, Lexington 42It was an offensive explosion between the Mustangs and Lexington in week one that came down to a final touchdown in the last minutes of the game from quarterback Xavier Geter.
Geter finished with three touchdowns on the night while running back Preston Smith had four, including a 90-yard rushing touchdown.
Midland Valley will face Lakeside (0-1) in Week 2 and look to keep the momentum going with another big win.
Orangeburg-Wilkinson 50, Fox Creek 20The Predators fall on the road to Orangeburg-Wilkinson in their season opener and the first game of head coach David Sammons' tenure. While Fox Creek showed some promise offensively, it struggled to hold back the Bruins.
Silver Bluff (0-1) will come to town on Aug. 28 as the Predators look to bounce back with a win against the team’s former coach at home.
Ridge Spring-Monetta 48, Ware Shoals 34Like many of the other local teams this week, Ridge Spring-Monetta wasted no time adding a win to its record over Ware Shoals.
With the Trojans experience core group of skill players, they’ll be looking to keep the streak going against McCormick (0-1) in week two on Aug.28.
Barnwell 33, Buford 12Barnwell has been waiting all offseason to show how much the program has improved, and it made the most of it in week one with a huge win over Buford on Aug.21.
Josiah Gibson finished with two touchdowns for the Warhorses, while running back Torye Pickens ran for 217 yards on 26 carries and was responsible for one touchdown.
They’ll stay on the road in Week 2 to face Pelion (0-1) on Aug. 28.
Wagener-Salley 48, Great Falls 0The E'Mond Brown era begins with a bang for Wagener-Salley following a commanding victory over Great Falls to start the fall with a 1-0 record.
The War Eagles will return home for four weeks following the win, starting with their home opener against Branchville (1-0) on Aug. 28.
Blackville-Hilda 36, Denmark-Olar 0The Fighting Hawks made a statement with their shutout win over Denmark-Olar to kick off the fall season on Aug.20. They’ll be going to Edisto (0-1) for week two on Aug.28 with their combined squad, with the hopes of staying in the win column.
