The Trinity Shamrocks enter another high school football season as the No. 1 team in Kentucky. They showed why on Friday night, going up to Cincinnati to defeat Anderson, the No. 12 team in Ohio, 59-13 to open the 2026 campaign.
Trinity opened the game with five scoring drives and bullied the Raptors on the ground. Senior three-star quarterback Zane Johnson threw a touchdown and ran for two more while running backs Jamaurion Berry and Ashton Taylor each ran for multiple scores.
The Shamrocks set the tone early. Johnson’s first touchdown pass of the night came on the opening possession of the game as he found Jason Hagan for a 26-yard score. After a three-and-out from Anderson, Trinity quickly made it 14-0 on a Johnson keeper. A touchdown run from Jamaurion Berry made it 21-0 with plenty of time left in the first quarter.
Anderson was aggressive, routinely choosing not to punt on fourth downs, challenging the Trinity defense. That didn’t yield many positive results, though the Raptors did temporarily stop the bleeding with a touchdown at the end of the quarter.
Berry then added his second touchdown of the night and Taylor also scored twice, the second of which was a 40-yard run. Anderson had zero answer for the ‘Rocks, forcing just one punt in the first half. Trinity took a 45-13 lead to halftime and the second half featured a running clock.
Trinity entered this weekend as the No. 70 team in the nation and top-ranked team in the Bluegrass, per the Rivals Composite Rankings. With the big win under its belt, it now continues a treacherous schedule by heading to Christian Brothers, the preseason No. 2 team in Missouri, next week.
The season-opening matchup for Anderson is its toughest of the year, at least on paper. The Raptors, who checked in at No. 86 nationally, will head to West Clermont next Friday in search of their first win of the season.
