The Holland Christian boys soccer program didn't look far to find a coach when Dave DeBoer decided to step down.
Lito Wagenveld has been one of the assistant coaches and junior varsity coaches in the Maroons program the past couple of years and was hired to take over the varsity program this season.
"Leading the Holland Christian boys soccer program is an immense privilege," Wagenveld wrote in a news release.
The Maroons have been a perennial state power with several district and regional titles, including a state championship, during DeBoer's tenure.
DeBoer led the Maroons to the state title in 2022 and compiled a 197-42-30 record.
In his 13 years, Holland Christian won five conference championships, six district titles and two regional crowns, plus the state title.
"Our program has had a distinct ethos of togetherness, fighting spirit and belief," Wagenveld said. "It's something from which we can build continued success, and I'm excited to serve in meeting the program's goals."
