Honda is up for a challenge by introducing its updated power unit onboard Aston Martin in upcoming F1 Dutch GP at Circuit Zandvoort, which is a sprint weekend.

After Aston Martin introduced its first big update on the chassis side before the summer break in Hungarian GP, Honda is set for an updated power unit in this weekend’s F1 Dutch GP at Circuit Zandvoort. It is the first step towards recovery mode for the Silverstone-based team.

The upgraded chassis delivered for Aston Martin, as they could clearly see the gains. They will continue bringing parts in the second half as they aim for a better car from the onset of F1 2027 season. While the car is getting sorted, Honda is also taking a bigger step to match the chassis.

Integration of PU and chassis hurt Aston Martin, Honda

A large part of their problem has been integration. The lack of time pre-season meant, it was left to last minute and the inexperience showed at the onset of the F1 2026 with host of vibrations issues. Over the months, they have sorted most of their issues and now are ready with the updates.

Honda is braced for the challenge in Dutch GP, which is a F1 sprint weekend, leaving them with only one practice session to get everything sorted. “The Dutch Grand Prix is an important milestone for Honda as this is where we introduce our new spec power unit,” said Honda Trackside General Manager and Chief Engineer, Shintaro Orihara.

Sprint weekend will be a challenge

“This is the result of an intense period of hard work at HRC Sakura together with HRC UK and the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team. Zandvoort is a Sprint weekend, which means we only have a single free practice session.

“This will bring an additional challenge to complete the evaluation of our new package in that limited running, but it’s a test we’re looking forward to. In Hungary, we saw a step forward with the new chassis. With the new specification power unit now introduced, we look forward to building on that progress together with the team over the remainder of the season.”
