The Charlotte Hornets' busy offseason rolled from July right into August, it seems. After trading LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Hornets then struck a deal to send starting power forward Miles Bridges to the Phoenix Suns. Now, Charlotte remained busy in mid-August, finalizing a deal to acquire Dennis Schroder from the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The news of the trade was first reported by ESPN's Shams Charania and includes Cleveland receiving Tre Mann and cash.
- Cavaliers receive: Tre Mann, cash
- Hornets receive: Dennis Schroder
It's an interesting deal for both sides, as the Cavaliers will clear some salary cap space, and the Hornets add more depth to the point guard position after the decision to trade Ball.
Hornets' projected starting lineup and roster after Dennis Schroder trade- PG: Coby White
- Backups/reserves at PG: Dennis Schroder, Christian Anderson Jr. (rookie)
- SG: Kon Knueppel
- Backups/reserves at SG: Grayson Allen, Pat Connaughton (team option)
- SF: Brandon Miller
- Backups/reserves at SF: Sion James, Liam McNeeley
- PF: Naz Reid
- Backups/reserves at PF: Hannes Steinbach (rookie), Royce O'Neale, Dorian Finney-Smith, Grant Williams, Tidjane Salaun
- C: Moussa Diabate
- Backups/reserves at C: Ryan Kalkbrenner
The deal makes sense for both sides on paper, and it'll be interesting to see what type of role Schroder plays for the new-look Hornets in 2026-27. With Ball and Bridges no longer in Charlotte, it'll be Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel handling the bulk of the offensive workload, but Schroder could make for a nice addition that can bolster the team's scoring and playmaking.
