Burrows, who had been working to return to the mound after dealing with elbow issues, experienced what manager Joe Espada described as his shoulder "barking" during a routine throwing session on Monday. Subsequent imaging confirmed the presence of inflammation in the shoulder, prompting the team to take precautionary measures.
In the context of minor-league rehab assignments, pitchers are allowed a maximum of 30 days to work their way back to the major leagues. By pausing Burrows' assignment, the Astros have the option to initiate a new rehab stint once he is cleared to pitch again.
