After playing in a couple of high-profile exhibition games earlier in the week, the Nebraska women's volleyball team officially opens the 2026 season on Saturday afternoon. The Huskers face the UNLV Rebels in the Players Era Volleyball Showcase at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Nebraska enters Saturday having won the inaugural Spikes Under the Lights championship in Arlington, Texas. On Thursday, the Huskers swept No. 17 Florida (21-19, 21-18) in the semifinal and No. 11 SMU (21-12, 21-11) in the championship.
Nebraska enters the season-opener ranked No. 1 in the preseason AVCA Coaches Poll. It marks the Huskers' 124th week all-time at No. 1 in the AVCA Coaches Poll, the most of any program in the nation.
The Cornhuskers are entering Year 2 of the Dani Busboom Kelly era. Last season, Nebraska finishfinished 33-1, falling to Texas A&M in the regional finals.
The Huskers won their third straight Big Ten title in 2025 with a 20-0 record in conference play. Nebraska's offense (.351) and defense (.129) both ranked first nationally last season. The Huskers' hitting percentage broke the previous school record of .331 in 1986.
Nebraska returns three AVCA All-Americans: Andi Jackson, Harper Murray and Bergen Reilly. The trio was also selected to the preseason All-Big Ten Team.
Jackson enters her fourth season after being named the AVCA Middle Blocker of the Year and receiving first-team All-American honors. She led the nation with a .467 attack percentage, the third-best in a single season in program history.
Murray earned AVCA All-American and All-Big Ten first-team honors after leading the Huskers with a career-best 3.54 kills per set on a career-high .295 attack percentage. She also led the team in aces with 34.
Reilly rounds out the trio. She is also coming off a first-team All-American season. She was named the AVCA Setter of the Year, Big Ten Player of the Year and Big Ten Setter of the Year last season.
UNLV is coming off a 13-15 record in 2025 with a 7-11 record in conference play. The Rebels were picked to finish sixth in the 2026 Mountain West Preseason Coaches' Poll. Outside hitter Jaida Harris has been named the MW Preseason Player of the Year.
The Las Vegas native was named the conference newcomer of the year last season with a .218 hitting percentage and 370 total kills. She also recorded 215 digs, 52 total blocks, 38 service aces and 18 assists.
Nebraska is 44-7 all-time in season openers and has won seven consecutive season openers. The last season-opener loss was a four-set defeat to No. 7 Florida in 2018. This is the first volleyball match between Nebraska and UNLV.
