The last thing the Los Angeles Chargers could afford was more injuries to their offensive line. Last year, the Chargers were partly defined by respective injuries to Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt, and as such, never developed enough chemistry up front to have an offensive front worthy of a real contender.
The Chargers were understandably hoping for better injury luck for their big guys up front this year. After an unlucky joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers earlier this week, they're already staring down being without one starter for the foreseeable future. Tyler Biadasz, who signed with the Chargers in the offseason as one of their big-ticket free agents, has multiple injured ligaments in his left knee and will be out indefinitely.
We haven't even played a single real game. What rotten, typical Chargers fortune:
Chargers center Tyler Biadasz is out indefinitely after suffering damage to his ACL and additional injuries to his left knee during Tuesday’s joint practice against the 49ers, per @rapsheet and me.

Of course, the Chargers don't have time to pout in this situation. While it's not ideal, they still have plenty of time to get a new center acclimated to their offense in Biadasz's absence in time for the regular season. Here's who they're currently thinking of elevating into this essential center role.
Who is Tyler Biadasz's backup on the Chargers?Jake Slaughter is currently the Chargers' starting center and is listed as Biadasz's backup on their depth chart. Slaughter is a rookie out of Indiana who was selected in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
