Fleetwood Town defender Denver Hume has retired from football with immediate effect because of a long-term injury.
The 28-year-old has not played for the club since October 2025 after suffering a bleed on the brain during a training session, something then manager Pete Wild said seemed to be "an innocuous collision" at the time.
"He's still got a lot to process mentally from the incident. It's certainly knocked him and us for six because it was so innocuous," Wild said.
Hume made nine appearances for Fleetwood after signing on a two-year deal in June 2025 from Grimsby Town.
He played 84 games for Sunderland where he began his career and also had a spell at Portsmouth where he played 31 games.
"Everyone at Fleetwood Town would like to thank Denver for his contribution during his time at the Club, congratulate him on a successful playing career and wish him and his family all the very best for the future," a Fleetwood statement said.
