Ian Rapoport Thinks Patriots' Christian Gonzalez Missing Practice Was Weird Timing originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
It was odd that the New England Patriots had a joint practice with the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday and star cornerback Christian Gonzalez wasn't at practice.
Gonzalez, undoubtedly one of the better players at his position in the NFL, has been in search of a new contract.
There have been reports indicating that he could get a deal to make him the highest-paid corner in the league, while others have suggested that he could wait until next year to get a deal done.
Speaking about why he missed practice, NFL insider Ian Rapoport had a lot to say on “The Pat McAfee Show,” but he believes the timing of him missing practice is "interesting."
“I wanna be clear, I do not know why Christian Gonzalez was not at practice today," Rapoport said.
"But it’s interesting to me that yesterday they agreed to terms with Hunter Henry on a new contract extension, and then the next day Christian Gonzalez is not practicing. ...I think there’s a good chance [Devon] Witherspoon gets done. I think. I don’t know about Gonzalez, whether it’s gonna be this year or next year. But the timing is certainly something I took note of today and is interesting.”
There hasn't been any announcement as to why Gonzalez missed practice, but some have suggested that he is dealing with a minor injury that he sustained at the end of Monday's practice.
Obviously, the contract situation is the more intriguing situation of the bunch, so fans have automatically gone in that direction.
