IND vs SL 1st Test: KL Rahul retires hurt on 77 after suffering severe cramps in Galle

KL Rahul was forced to retire hurt on 77 during Day 1 of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium after suffering severe cramps and discomfort in his right hand. Rahul, who had played a composed and anchoring innings of 77 off 162 balls, including nine fours and a six, was forced to leave the field shortly after the tea break. He received medical attention before walking back to the dressing room alongside the team physio.


Rahul's injury scare
Rahul initially appeared to be struggling with cramps and physical exhaustion. He was later seen experiencing discomfort in a finger on his right hand, with the Indian medical team assessing the issue. The India vice-captain had played a key role in putting India in a strong position before his departure. He retired hurt with India at 138/1, having provided stability at the top of the order.




Padikkal steps up
Rahul's departure did not slow India's progress as Devdutt Padikkal continued his impressive innings and brought up his maiden Test century. Padikkal took charge after Rahul's exit and helped India move beyond the 200-run mark with captain Shubman Gill on strike.
