During the WNBA's break for the FIBA World Cup, the Indiana Fever received heartwarming news from assistant coach Karima Christmas-Kelly, who announced the arrival of her new baby. Christmas-Kelly shared the joyful moment on Instagram, posting a photo of herself cradling her newborn while proudly wearing a Fever sweatshirt.

In her post, she wrote, "Kali 💜 Kelly Party of 4," celebrating the expansion of her family. Christmas-Kelly has been on maternity leave, allowing her to focus on this significant personal milestone. Meanwhile, her husband, Austin Kelly, who also serves as an assistant coach for the Fever, has remained active with the team during her absence, taking on a crucial role as they navigate the break.

Karima Christmas-Kelly's connection to the Indiana Fever runs deep. She enjoyed a successful 10-year playing career in the WNBA, having been drafted in the second round of the 2011 draft. Her tenure with the Fever spanned from 2012 to 2014, during which she contributed to the franchise's first WNBA championship in 2012. After her time with the Fever, she played for several other teams, including the Tulsa Shock, Dallas Wings, and Minnesota Lynx, before transitioning into coaching.

In 2023, Christmas-Kelly returned to the Fever as an assistant coach and continued to be part of the coaching staff after the appointment of head coach Stephanie White. Currently, the Fever are adapting to a modified coaching structure during the World Cup break. White is in Berlin serving as an assistant coach for Team USA, where she is working with standout players Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston. With Christmas-Kelly on leave, Austin Kelly and fellow assistant Briann January are overseeing the team's training and preparations in Indianapolis.

The Fever have much to accomplish before the WNBA season resumes in mid-September. They entered the break in a strong position for a playoff spot, thanks in large part to the impressive performances of Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell. Mitchell was particularly outstanding in August, averaging 28.9 points per game and earning the title of Eastern Conference Player of the Month. Clark also made significant contributions, averaging 24.4 points and 9.4 assists during the same period.

As the WNBA schedule resumes, the Fever players will have the opportunity to recuperate and refine their skills in preparation for the crucial final stretch of the season. The eventual return of Christmas-Kelly will add another valuable voice to White's coaching staff, but for now, the focus is on family as the Kellys celebrate their newest addition.

As the Fever prepare for the postseason, the team is reminded that while basketball is important, family moments like these are equally significant.
