IndyCar silly season: Mick Schumacher knows 2027 future but won't reveal plans

WASHINGTON – Mick Schumacher wants to remain in IndyCar, but the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing rookie must find a new seat for 2027 after RLL sold a charter to Dreyer & Reinbold Racing. With the team still having Graham Rahal and Louis Foster under contract next year, Schumacher is left as the odd man out.

But on Friday, Schumacher said there's no frustration over the situation, as he has figured out where he'll be in 2027.

"I don't have to look," Schumacher said at the media bullpen in Washington, D.C. "I know where it's going, it just takes time."

Schumacher would not reveal where he's agreed to race next year, but the 27-year-old seems confident in a deal, whether it's been signed yet or not. Only RLL, Andretti Global, Team Penske, Ed Carpenter Racing and Arrow McLaren have solidified full driver lineups next year, leaving six teams still needing to find their drivers.

Schumacher appears to be headed for one of those teams, with Meyer Shank Racing considered a frontrunner for the German driver's services. Schumacher is 24th in the IndyCar standings, just one point above Sting Ray Robb – who's last of the full-time drivers. With four races to go, Schumacher is 38 points behind Dennis Hauger (21st) in IndyCar's Rookie of the Year race.
