Inter Miami CF have named Cristian 'Kily' González as their new head coach, the club announced Thursday
The 52-year-old former Argentine international officially replaces his ex-Albiceleste teammate Javier Mascherano, who departed the club in April.
The Herons had been led by Guillermo Hoyos, who will remain charge of the team until the arrival of the new head coach and his coaching staff.
González joins Miami with a half-decade of coaching experience in his native Argentina, most recently with Club Atlético Platense during the 2025 Primera División season.
He began his first-team managerial career at boyhood club Rosario Central (2020-22) before taking the reins at Unión Santa Fe between 2023-25.
As a player, González starred for the likes of Rosario Central, Boca Juniors, Real Zaragoza, Valencia and Inter Milan. He represented Argentina at the 2002 FIFA World Cup and helped his country win gold at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games.
González takes over a Miami side led by Argentina legend Lionel Messi and an A-list supporting cast highlighted by fellow global superstars Luis Suárez, Rodrigo De Paul and Casemiro.
Since Messi's summer 2023 arrival, the Herons have won three titles: Leagues Cup 2023, the 2024 MLS Supporters' Shield and MLS Cup 2025 presented by Audi.
The first-ever back-to-back Landon Donovan MLS MVP (2024, '25), Messi has 14g/9a this season while also guiding Argentina, along with De Paul, to the 2026 World Cup final.
Miami are second in the Eastern Conference with 39 points. They're looking to become the first repeat MLS Cup champions since the LA Galaxy in 2011-12.
