Inter Miami has hired Cristian Alberto “Kily” González as the club's new head coach.

González replaces interim boss Guillermo Hoyos and becomes Inter Miami's third head coach of the year.

Inter Miami is in the midst of a five-game winless streak, with four losses and one draw in all competitions. It is still in second place in the MLS Eastern Conference.

"González will officially assume his duties once he receives the corresponding work permits. Guillermo Hoyos will provisionally continue in charge of the team until the arrival of the new head coach and his coaching staff," Inter Miami said in a press release.

Hoyos took over in April from Javier Mascherano, who resigned for personal reasons after leading the Herons to the MLS Cup in 2025.

Inter Miami announced González's hire on the same day MLS suspended Hoyos for one game due to Inter Miami's repeated failure to come out of the locker room in a timely manner after halftime.

Hoyos will serve his suspension during Inter Miami's match against CF Montréal on Saturday, Aug. 29.

González has only coached in his native Argentina thus far, taking charge of Rosario Central, Unión (Santa Fe) and Platense.

The 52-year-old was briefly a teammate with Inter Miami star Lionel Messi, with the pair sharing the field for two games in 2005 with the Argentina national team.
