The New England Patriots are expected to play most of their backups in Thursday's preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts. That means offensive tackle Will Campbell likely won't be on the field for the team's first game in August.
Campbell returned to practice on Monday after suffering an injury. He was also back on the field as a full participant at the joint training camp practice against the Colts on Tuesday. The team would probably want to play it safe with their top left tackle, who has been practicing with a brace on his arm.
Campbell has had an impressive training camp, particularly excelling in one-on-one reps. He'll be looking to have a breakout year in his second NFL season, following a strong rookie year. The former LSU standout didn't experience a falloff last season until he suffered an MCL injury.
He will have a chance to see game action in next week's preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, there is a chance that the Patriots rest their starters for a second straight week, with two joint training practices scheduled with the Eagles ahead of the Week 2 preseason matchup.
