Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Pa., TONIGHT (Sat., Aug. 15, 2026), where two of the very best mixed martial arts (MMA) Welterweight talents on the planet — Islam Makhachev vs. Ian Machado-Garry — are set to collide in UFC 330’s Paramount+-streamed main event.
For 170-pound kingpin, Makhachev, the opportunity is about adding another chapter to an already historic run. The former Lightweight champion enters “The City of Brotherly Love” unbeaten for nearly a decade, riding a remarkable 16-fight win streak — one of the sport’s seemingly untouchable records he co-owns with the legendary Anderson Silva.
Despite all of his accomplishments, questions (like this) remain about how his dominance would translate against another elite contender at 170 pounds.
Standing across from him is Garry, who has spent the last several years proving that his nickname is no longer a prediction. Indeed, “The Future” rapidly climbed UFC’s rankings ladder, emerging as one of the division’s most accomplished and confident (or arrogant?) young stars.

Garry was calm, cool and collected, walking out to Layla (his wife’s name) as he waited for the champion to enter the Octagon. Islam, meanwhile, had a much more serious look on his face, with his mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, tailing right behind him. Low kick from Islam missed its mark early as both fighters probed each other, looking to feel out each other for the first uneventful minute. Islam uncorked a high kick, then Garry tried to respong in-kind, and Islam snatched his leg and it lead to a n immediate takedown. Garry crawled to the fence and tried to get to his feet, but Islam was draped on his back. Islam tried to get his hooks in, but instead gave him repeated Charlie horses to the downed Irishman. Garry eventually built up to all fours, but Islam was still backpacking him, making him carry all his weight. Islam tripped him again, tied up his left leg, but Garry was able to remain in a defensive position. Garry attempted to break Islam’s grip around his waist with 12-6 elbows, but Islam just readjusted and continued to make him carry his weight. Strong round for the champion, but no real damage was done to either fighter.
