The Jacksonville Jaguars are making a trade for a quarterback prior to roster cutdown day.
According to Ian Rapoport, the Jaguars are acquiring quarterback Quinn Ewers from the Miami Dolphins.
Adam Schefter is reporting that the Jaguars and Dolphins are swapping 2028 Day 3 draft picks in exchange for Ewers.
Why did the Jaguars trade for Dolphins quarterback Quinn Ewers? The quarterback play behind Trevor Lawrence this preseason was often shaky. The addition of Ewers provides the team with another developmental option.
A 2025 seventh-round draft pick, Ewers appeared in four games last season, completing 66% of his passes for 622 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions.
He could either take over the backup role from Nick Mullens or the Jaguars could roster him as the third quarterback this year, developing Ewers into a long-term backup option behind Lawrence.
