The Jacksonville Jaguars were back on the practice field on Monday for Day 14 of training camp. So with practice complete, let's take a look back at Travis Hunter's performance and where he was lined up.
Through each of the first 12 practices, Hunter has played both offense and defense each day, although he's seen more reps at cornerback.
Monday, however, was different. By design, all of Hunter's snaps came on defense.
According to Michael DiRocco of ESPN, Hunter took part in 21 snaps during the 11-on-11 team periods, and 20 of those reps came on defense and one on special teams. None came on offense.
"It was definitely beneficial," Hunter said of the heavy workload on defense. "I needed to knock the rust off, like I said earlier. I gotta get better, somehow and somewhere so I definitely took my time to hone in on one a day, and today that was defense, get better, get my feet up under me. Can't let nobody catch the ball. That's my motto right now. Just continue to focus and get better."
DiRocco added that Hunter did record a pass breakup at cornerback on a pass from Trevor Lawrence to CJ Williams. John Shipley of Jaguars on SI wrote that Hunter was also "locking up" Brian Thomas Jr. on a few reps.
Jaguars CB/WR Travis Hunter 11-on-11 snap tracker
Day 14 snaps: 21 (20 defense, 0 offense, 1 ST)
Total snaps: 178 (116 defense, 61 offense, 1 ST) (not including Saints joint practice)
No offensive snaps today by design. PBU on Trevor Lawrence’s pass to CJ Williams.
While Hunter worked solely with the defense in 11-on-11 periods, Shipley did note that Hunter did see some wide receiver snaps in 7-on-7s, where he made "a nice move after the catch on a short pass."
In terms of what Monday's workload might mean for Hunter in season, I wouldn't read much into it. James Gladstone and Liam Coen have been clear all offseason that Hunter will continue to play both ways, although compared to last year, his workload on defense will be greater.
How many snaps he sees on a weekly basis on offense still remains to be seen and could ebb and flow as the season progresses.
