Travis Hunter walked from the field where the Jacksonville Jaguars defense was playing against the Tampa Bay Bucs offense on Aug. 25 during a joint practice at the Miller Electric Center to the other field, where the Jaguars offense was working.
He was getting a break along with the rest of the Jags first defense in favor in the second unit and as he was walking to the other field, heads turned.
Was Hunter going to get some snaps on offense?
Nope. False alarm. Hunter watched a couple of plays, went back to the other field, and completed a day in which he played only defense.
In the last two practices in which the Jaguars went full speed in pads (Monday's session was a walk-through), Hunter has 51 snaps, all on defense. The indications are clear the Jags are going to start the season with Hunter focusing on that side of the ball but with a caveat: WRs Jakobi Meyers (thumb) and Brian Thomas Jr. (shoulder) are a bit banged up.
Jaguars coach Liam Coen thinks he'll have Meyers and Thomas for the opening game against Cleveland on Sept. 13 at EverBank Stadium, but Hunter probably should hold onto his offensive playbook just for safety's sake.

For the season, Hunter has 74 offensive snaps and 234 defensive snaps, for a total of 308. He last had an offensive snap on Aug. 19 in a joint practice vs. Carolina, and had only two that day.
Hunter has 64 offensive snaps and 210 defensive snaps in 11-on-11 team periods and 10 offensive snaps and 24 defensive snaps in 7-on-7 periods.
