Bayern Munich continued their winning preseason run with a 3-1 win over RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena in the Telekom Cup — a match that was originally a part of the agreement when Julian Nagelsmann transferred to the German Rekordmeister back in 2021. Goals from Luis Díaz, Nathaniel Brown and Jamal Musiala saw that Brajan Gruda’s goal was only a mere consolation for Die Roten Bullen and Vincent Kompany can take even more confidence into the beginning of the competitive season, which starts in the form of the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup vs. Borussia Dortmund on the 22nd.
Unfortunately, Bayern’s win over Leipzig did come at a slight cost, as Konrad Laimer was forced off injured in the first half, while Musiala also came off late on in the second half after fainting on the pitch. Even Kim Min-jae looked to be in a decent deal of discomfort at one point in the match, and he was subsequently replaced by Hiroki Ito in the second half.
For Min-jae and Laimer, the injuries looked to be muscular, but it was a bit scarier of a scene for Musiala when he fainted and his teammates immediately rushed to his aide before the physios began treating him. Thankfully, it appears that Bayern’s #10 is alright.
Per information from Sport1 (via @iMiaSanMia), Musiala had complained of dizziness and circulatory problems as a result of the extreme heat, causing him to partially faint and require treatment before exiting the match late on. Preliminary examinations from Bayern’s medical team did not reveal any problems, but he will be closely monitored in the coming days in addition to focusing on rest and recovery for the time being.
Incidents like the one Musiala experienced are never to be taken lightly, regardless of how fine he might’ve been after the fact. 30°C plus humidity isn’t exactly ideal, but the weather will naturally start to cool off as we edge closer to the autumn and hopefully that will greatly reduce the susceptibility of things like this happening.
