New York Jets rookie quarterback Cade Klubnik wasn't as sharp in Week 2 of the NFL preseason as the box score indicates. The former Clemson standout completed 10-of-14 passing attempts for 75 yards. He added 16 rushing yards to his offensive totals, and was sacked twice.
Klubnik was playing against a better Pittsburgh Steelers defense than he did in his preseason debut, and he wasn't as sharp as a result. The Jets could still be in the market for a backup quarterback to support starter Geno Smith.
If that's the case, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Andy Dalton is becoming a name to watch.
Dalton appears to be losing the Eagles' backup job to the younger Tanner McKee.
McKee was outstanding this past weekend, completing 16-of-22 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns. Dalton was just 3-of-10 by comparison.
The Eagles also have a rookie quarterback they plan to roster as their No. 3 in Cole Payton. That leaves no room for Dalton, who could be traded or released before initial 53-man rosters are finalized. The Jets should be very attentive to Dalton's ongoing situation.
Klubnik doesn't appear ready to be the Jets' No. 2 quarterback. Dalton could emerge as a target.
