Joey Veerman joins BVB

Borussia Dortmund’s Managing Director of Sports, Lars Ricken, explains: “Joey is a player whose skills will be of enormous help to us. We have deliberately focused our transfer activities this summer on central midfield, because with Pascal Groß and Salih Özcan, we’ve lost two players there since the start of the year—and we plan to use Emre Can in central defense once he returns to the team.”

Veerman joined FC Volendam in 2005 at the age of six and made his professional debut in June 2016 for the second-division club, for which he played 81 games (12 goals). From 2019 to 2021, he played for the Eredivisie club SC Heerenveen (81 games, 18 goals) before transferring to PSV Eindhoven in January 2022. With the top Dutch club, the midfielder won three league titles (2024, 2025, 2026), two cup titles (2022, 2023), and three Super Cup titles (2022, 2023, 2025). In total, he played 198 matches (31 goals) for PSV.

Sporting Director Ole Book emphasized: “Joey is a truly outstanding soccer player who possesses a great deal of creativity, technical skill, and vision. He has shown at PSV Eindhoven and with the Dutch national team that he can consistently perform at the highest level. We’re excited that he’ll be bringing his talents to our team in the future.”

After making one appearance for the Dutch U-19 national team, Veerman has played 16 matches for the Netherlands’ senior national team since 2023 (one goal).

Joey Veerman said of his move to BVB: “Borussia Dortmund is a major club in Europe, and I’m proud to now be a part of it. I’m thrilled to be here and look forward to celebrating successes together with BVB.”
