APPLETON, Wis. – A notable event took place at the Boys & Girls Club in Appleton on Thursday afternoon, as Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love made a special appearance to launch the third year of his philanthropic initiative, 'Love For Cleats.'
This campaign, which Love initiated to support youth sports, involves a commitment to donate cleats to young athletes for every touchdown he scores during the NFL season. The beneficiaries include teams from Wisconsin and his hometown of Bakersfield, California. Love emphasized the importance of keeping children engaged in sports, reflecting on how athletics shaped his own youth.
"Try to keep kids involved with sports," Love stated, sharing his personal experiences. "Sports had such an impact on me when I was your age, being around new people and making friends, and learning great lessons about how to work hard, how to show up on time, and work together with my group of teammates." His words highlight the campaign's mission to foster teamwork and resilience among young athletes.
Love collaborates with U.S. Venture for the 'Love For Cleats' campaign, which aims to provide essential gear to youth sports programs. Greg Vandenberg, the Director of Giving and Community Engagement at U.S. Venture, expressed admiration for Love's authenticity and dedication, stating, "As much talent as there is on the field, the authenticity and the heart is even more so, and I think we’re really humbled and proud to be able to partner with him." This partnership underscores the positive impact of community involvement in sports.
During the event, children had the opportunity to showcase their creativity by designing a pair of cleats for Love. He announced the winning design on Thursday, which he plans to wear during a game this season as part of the NFL's 'My Cleat, My Cause' initiative. This initiative allows players to highlight causes that are meaningful to them, further bridging the gap between professional athletes and their communities.
For youth sports programs interested in receiving cleat donations from the 'Love For Cleats' campaign, applications are currently being accepted. This initiative not only provides necessary equipment but also encourages young athletes to pursue their passion for sports, reinforcing the values of teamwork and perseverance.
