The Celtics shocked the world when they traded Jaylen Brown to the 76ers. Everyone wondered what that meant for a team that won the NBA Finals not long ago. For Boston, it just meant someone else had to step up.

Jordan Walsh believes he can impress in his fourth NBA season in a Celtics uniform.

A five-star recruit out of Arkansas in 2022, Walsh was picked in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft by the Kings. The Celtics acquired his draft rights, and he later signed a four-year, $7.6 million deal. Walsh had a limited role during the Celtics’ championship season, but it increased the next year.

Now in his senior campaign, Walsh looks to provide more value to the Celtics. He wants to be relied upon when it matters most.

“I'm trying to change my identity offensively,” Walsh said via Sports Illustrated. “I'm trying to become a better, way better offensive player. I'm trying to fit in situations that I didn't fit in last year. I'm trying to be the answer to the situations that they took me out of.”

Jordan Walsh continues to grow

Last season, Walsh averaged 5.4 points per game, 4.0 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 68 games. He shot 38% from 3-point range. Walsh produced when it mattered and contributed in the playoffs.

After Brown went to the 76ers, the Celtics got busy. After picking up his $2.4 million option for the 2026-27 season, Boston and Walsh agreed to a three-year, $15 million contract extension through the 2029-30 season.

Walsh figures to have a prominent role with the Celtics this upcoming season. The 22-year-old will have some competition, thanks to the emergence of Hugo Gonzalez and the team drafting Chris Cenac Jr. It’s something he’s thought about while training.

Walsh has put in the work, and he’s ready to prove he can be a force when called upon.

“When those moments come, I want to always be the best option. I want to be the best choice,” Walsh said. “[That means] working on my shot, working on my handle, working on creating my own shot when I have those pockets.”
