Jorge Masvidal Hints at UFC Comeback Against Leon Edwards

MMA veteran Jorge Masvidal is teasing a comeback to the UFC and has hinted at a potential matchup against long-time rival Leon Edwards.

The 41-year-old Masvidal has not fought in MMA since a 2023 unanimous decision loss to Gilbert Burns, though he has competed in boxing once since then, losing on the scorecards to Nate Diaz in 2025.

There have been rumors in recent months that Masvidal could be mounting a UFC comeback, and it appears those rumors are true, as the fighter himself confirmed he is in talks with the UFC about a potential comeback.

Speaking to MMAjunkie.com, Edwards hinted at a comeback to the Octagon and mentioned Edwards as an opponent he would like to face.

“I’ve been talking to the UFC. Could be this year, could be early next year. We’ve been talking for a little bit and the numbers are getting closer and closer and better and better so there might be some big news coming soon,” Masvidal said.

“Waiting for the right names and stuff, but once they give me the right name and the right number attached to that, you’ll see your boy right back over here at the T-Mobile Arena (in Las Vegas).

“Leon is definitely a prospect. Leon is definitely someone I would like to go back in and close that chapter out.”

Masvidal and Edwards have a long history with each other dating back to March 2019. After Masvidal knocked out Darren Till in London, England, Edwards heckled Masvidal as he conducted a backstage interview with UFC reporter Laura Sanko. Masvidal was not amused by it and then went up to Edwards and threw punches at him, famously calling it a “three-piece with a soda.”

The two rivals have always been connected to a potential fight against one another, but with Masvidal leaving the UFC three years ago, it didn’t happen. But now that Masvidal is back on the UFC roster and with Edwards looking for a fight as well, it’s time that these two rivals finally squared off against each other.
