The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly changing hands once again in a record-breaking deal worth more than $12 billion.

According to a report from ESPN published on Wednesday, August 12, Josh Kushner and Bob Iger have agreed to purchase the iconic NBA franchise from Mark Walter for a staggering amount.

The sale comes less than a year after Walter officially bought a majority stake in the team from the Buss family, who had owned the team for decades. The NBA Board of Governors unanimously approved the sale in October 2025.

According to the outlet, Kushner, 41, and Iger, 75, had previously been focusing on bringing an expansion team to Las Vegas before they opted to make a surprise bid for the Lakers.

The reported purchase price would make it the most expensive sale of a professional sports franchise.

Kushner is the founder of investment firm Thrive Capital and the younger brother of Jared Kushner, PresidentDonald Trump‘s son-in-law. He’s also married to supermodel Karlie Kloss. Iger, meanwhile, has led Disney for years and is one of the more recognizable executives in the entertainment industry.

Walter, CEO and chairman of TWG Global, is involved with multiple professional sports teams including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Sparks, the Professional Women’s Hockey League and several auto racing teams through TWG Motorsports.
