Joshua Karty is actively pursuing a new opportunity in the NFL, recently trying out for the New York Jets. The free agent kicker, who previously spent two seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, is looking to find a stable role after facing challenges in his last season.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Karty's audition with the Jets marks his second known tryout since becoming a free agent. Earlier this month, he had a workout with the Tennessee Titans, indicating his determination to secure a spot on an NFL roster.
Karty's journey in the league took a downturn after he was released by the Rams last November. His sophomore season was particularly tumultuous, as he struggled with his kicking performance. After a promising rookie year in 2024, where he successfully converted 85.3% of his field goal attempts and maintained a perfect record during the postseason, Karty's success did not carry over into his second season. In 2025, he managed only 66.7% accuracy on 15 attempts, which included several blocked kicks and issues with his kickoff technique.
The Rams decided to part ways with Karty midseason, opting to finish the year with Harrison Mevis, who proved to be a reliable option, missing only one kick for the remainder of the season. Following the conclusion of the 2025 season, the Rams re-signed Mevis on a one-year tender and brought in Bubba Ventrone to revamp their special teams unit, effectively closing the door on Karty's return to Los Angeles.
After his release, Karty spent some time on the Rams' practice squad before concluding the last season with the Arizona Cardinals. His recent workout with the Jets is a crucial step in his effort to rebuild his reputation and value in the league.
