Justin Wrobleski Headed to IL Amid Rough Patch

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed left-handed pitcher Justin Wrobleski on the injured list with left forearm inflammation Sunday.

In a corresponding move, the Dodgers activated right-handed reliever Kyle Hurt, who was on the taxi squad heading into Sunday’s game.

Wrobleski, 26, earned his first All-Star appearance this season, but has struggled to find the same results he had in the first half since the All-Star break. In his five starts since the Midsummer Classic, Wrobleski has thrown 26 innings total, allowing 20 earned runs while receiving a loss three games in a row.

The southpaw had been solid up until the All-Star break, though, surprising many with a fantastic first half. Through July 7, Wrobleski had a 2.52 ERA on the year as a starter, which ranked second on the team only behind Shohei Ohtani.

Wrobleski has been on the roster since Opening Day, and looked to have his first full season in the majors this year. He threw 126.1 innings before landing on the injured list, almost double what he threw last season and more than he had thrown in the regular season before this year entirely.

Despite that, though, the left-hander didn’t concern himself with his workload, stating the team would do what’s best for him.

“At the end of the day, [the organization] will do what’s best for me and my career, and I trust the organization and these people,” Wrobleski said.

“My job is always to go out there and give them whatever they need from me that day, and pitch until they take the ball away from me.”

The Dodgers recently returned to their six-man rotation, as Blake Snell returned from the injured list, but will ahve to go back to five players after Wrobleski’s injury—at least for the time being. Tyler Glasnow is working his way back from an early-season back injury, and will make his final rehab appearance in the coming days.

The Dodgers plan to have him back later in the month, likely during their road trip to Detroit and Atlanta.

In addition to Glasnow, Ohtani is beginning to ramp up to speed after spending the second half exclusively as a hitter. The right-hander threw a bullpen session ahead of Friday’s game, and manager Dave Roberts expects him to return before the end of the season.
