Juventus offers to terminate Arthur’s contract with talks underway

Juventus and Arthur have started talks over the termination of the Brazilian midfielder’s contract this summer, as he is no longer part of their plans.

Arthur has been one of the biggest flops the club have had in recent times, and the midfielder has hardly played any matches for them since 2021.

He has been sent out on loan every season since then and returned from a spell at Gremio this summer to fight for a place in the team. However, his situation has changed significantly since returning.

Luciano Spalletti had been open to keeping him, but the Brazilian has struggled badly in pre-season, and the manager is now certain that he does not need him in his squad.

With no team coming forward to sign him, Juventus are now looking to ensure they offload Arthur by all means. The midfielder has offered to terminate his contract, giving himself a chance to find another club as a free agent.

Sky Sports Italia says the club are open to the idea, and both parties have started talks to finalise an agreement and remove his name from the Juventus roster.

The situation leaves Arthur facing an uncertain future after several difficult seasons with the Bianconeri. Juventus appear keen to bring his time with the team to an end, while the midfielder would have the opportunity to continue his career elsewhere.

Arthur’s move from Barcelona in 2020, in exchange for Miralem Pjanic, will go down as one of the worst swap deals that ever happened. The Brazilian clearly failed to meet expectations in Turin, while Pjanic also struggled during his time at Barcelona.

The midfielder’s repeated loan spells have underlined how far he has fallen from the expectations that accompanied his arrival at Juventus. After returning from Gremio, he had hoped to compete for a place in the squad, but his pre-season performances have seemingly convinced Spalletti that there is no role for him.

Now, Juventus and Arthur must work towards an agreement that allows both parties to move forward. If the contract is terminated, Arthur will become a free agent and can search for another club, while Juventus will finally be able to remove a player who has not been part of their plans for several seasons.
