The Kentucky Wildcats men's soccer team made their 2026 season debut on Thursday night. With the women's team off to a hot start, the men faced off against Western Michigan, looking to get going as well. A hard-fought contest followed, and ended in a 2-2 draw.

It was Western Michigan who jumped out in front early in this one. Less than two minutes in, they took a 1-0 lead, then made it 2-0 in the 24th minute, putting the Wildcats in a hole.

Kentucky finally got on the board in the 34th minute, with Tom Keller scoring on the assist from Costa Iliadis. With that, the score was 2-1 at the halfway point.

The second half was a defensive battle. The Wildcats kept Western Michigan scoreless, but their own offense struggled as well. Finally, in the 65th minute, Iliadis broke through and scored on an assist from Marcus Anderson. That tied it at two, which is how it would end.

It wasn't the start to the year that Kentucky would have liked, but it wasn't a loss. They'll look to bounce back in their next game, which comes against Louisville. That will be played on Aug. 24 at 7:30 P.M. ET.
