Kentucky Wildcats News: Malachi Moreno’s $10 Million Ham

“A tradition unlike any other” is the famous line CBS Sports broadcaster Jim Nantz uses for the Masters golf tournament each spring.

Kentucky has its own traditions with the Kentucky Derby and bourbon industry… but also Kentucky Basketball.

At the Kentucky State Fair each year, the Grand Champion Country Ham is sold at auction with proceeds benefiting local charities and organizations across the entire state.

The auction itself is a major deal, being held during the Country Ham Breakfast with well over a thousand people in attendance.

Yesterday, the Grand Champion Country Ham sold for $10 million, and the winning bidder was a familiar face to Big Blue Nation.

Malachi Moreno, along with teammates Justin McBride, Milan Momcilovic and Zoom Diallo, placed the winning $10 million bid for Joe and Kelly Craft as well as Central Bank.

Kentucky head coach Mark Pope, Moreno and the rest of the players in attendance sat with the Crafts at their table during the breakfast.

The winning $10 million bid marked the fourth consecutive year that the Grand Champion Country Ham has brought in eight figures. 2023, 2025, and 2026 have all been an even $10 million, while 2024 still holds the record high at $10.5 million.

$10 million is a lot for a country ham, but of course the money goes to great causes. The next question is who will be eating the ham and when will they dig in?
