Good morning, BBN!
Mark Mitchell appears to be Kentucky’s top choice to fill its final roster spot, but the Wildcats have several intriguing alternatives if the former Missouri star lands elsewhere.
Keyshawn Hall may offer the most proven scoring punch. The 6-foot-7 Auburn forward averaged 19.3 points and 7.1 rebounds last season while shooting 45.1% from the field. Kentucky has already held a Zoom call with Hall, whose ability to create his own offense would give Mark Pope another physical, experienced wing scorer.
Jaxon Kohler would bring something different. The 6-foot-10 Michigan State forward averaged 12.5 points and 8.9 rebounds while hitting 38.9% from deep. He would provide Kentucky with another proven rebounder and a stretch-big option who fits Pope’s preference for skilled frontcourt players, although BYU appears to be a major factor in his recruitment.
Kentucky will reportedly have a Zoom visit with Kohler today.
Then there’s Cade Tyson, who averaged 19.6 points and 5.4 rebounds at Minnesota. The 6-foot-7 wing’s combination of size, scoring, and perimeter shooting would make him another natural fit in Pope’s offense.
One interesting name without reported Kentucky interest yet is Nick Townsend. The 6-foot-7 Yale forward and Ivy League Player of the Year averaged 16.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists while shooting a blistering 46.3% from 3. His combination of shooting, rebounding, and playmaking makes him an intriguing potential option if Kentucky has to move further down its board.
Who would you like to see fill Kentucky’s final roster spot?
