Former Arizona Cardinals star quarterback Kyler Murray has gone through a lot in the early stages of his career.
There are times when he looks to be one of the better quarterbacks in the league, and others when he looks to be below average.
The Minnesota Vikings decided to take a chance on that, and it feels like it was the right decision. Minnesota obviously had some of its own quarterback questions to answer with J.J. McCarthy not living up to his hype, though it also led to some questions in the quarterback room.
All indications as of right now suggest that not only is Murray the leading candidate, but that he is playing better than he has in the past few seasons.
According to Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell, his mental side of things has been very impressive to him early on.
“Mentally, he’s definitely ahead of where I thought,” O’Connell said, H/T Heavu. “I think there’s been some new layers to our offense, whether it’s Kyler or J.J in there, it’s new.”
It's not wrong for O'Connell to bring up the mental situation with Murray. The reason for that is rather obvious and as I said above, he's gone through a lot throughout his early career.
As long as Murray is in a good headspace, I have trust in O'Connell figuring it out with any quarterback. He's a great football mind, and I expect him to continue doing what he's done throughout Minnesota, which is make the most out of quarterbacks who might not always be the best.
