The NBA decided that the best way for the new-look Philadelphia 76ers to open the season was to have them face the defending champion New York Knicks. The Sixers will open the highly anticipated season on Oct. 20 up at Madison Square Garden and watch the Knicks receive their rings and raise a championship banner.
The Knicks just won their first title since 1973 while Philadelphia will be looking to do the same in the coming season. The Sixers have not won since 1983 and their front office made moves hoping to end that drought.
Knicks star Jalen Brunson gave his thoughts on facing the Sixers on opening night:
Fireworks for sure. I mean they’re going to be electric. They’re going to be definitely a team to keep your eye on. They reloaded this year. It’s going to be a tough test, but we'll be ready.

Brunson and the Knicks, of course, swept the Sixers in Round 2 of the playoffs in May. Things might look vastly different in the coming season as Philadelphia looks to knock New York off the throne and claim it for themselves.
