The San Francisco 49ers completed a joint practice with the Los Angeles Chargers at The Bolt, Los Angeles' practice facility in El Segundo, California on Tuesday.
While the two teams were able to get through the session without skirmishes or fights, that wasn't the case last week when San Francisco held a joint practice with the Tennessee Titans at the 49ers' SAP Performance Facility.
Local reporters asked 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan why this practice was more tame, and he took it as an opportunity to take a hilarious shot at former 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, who is now the head coach in Tennessee.
"No, their head coach had more discipline than Tennessee’s," Shanahan said with a smile. "No, I’m just joking. A few things started early in the Tennessee practice, which when that happens, then everything just gets escalated throughout the rest of the day. I wasn’t on both sides, but nothing happened early, and usually when nothing happens early, nothing happens late.”
Shanahan and Saleh clearly have a great relationship, where they can throw these shots at each other and laugh about it. It's also notable that former 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh is the Chargers head coach now.
"Him being in San Francisco, there’s a lot of guys in our building who speak really highly of him, and I’ve got a lot of guys who used to work for me who now work for him who speak the same," Shanahan said of Harbaugh. "[I've] hung around him a number of times, but I feel like I know him even better than that.”
It will be interesting to see if Saleh responds with a funny joke of his own in the coming days or weeks.
