Lake Travis High School (Austin, Texas) senior Odin Hensley died late Wednesday, Aug. 12, following a "serious medical emergency" at football practice on Monday, Aug. 10.
Hensley, 17, suffered cardiac arrest at Monday's practice and died two days later, according to a GoFundMe set up to help his family.
"A Heartbreaking Update on Odin," the update on Thursday morning read.
"With unimaginable heartbreak, we share that Odin Hensley has passed away. We are beyond grateful to everyone who has donated, shared this fundraiser, and prayed for Odin and his family. Your support has meant more than words can express.
"Odin’s family is now facing the devastating loss of their son, along with the unexpected financial expenses that come with this tragedy. This fundraiser will continue to help support them with medical, funeral, and other expenses as they navigate the days ahead.
"If you have already donated, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. If you’re able to share the fundraiser again, it would mean so much. Please continue to keep Odin’s family and everyone who loved him in your prayers.
Forever loved. Forever remembered."
Hensley was flown to Travis County Star Flight to Dell Children’s Medical Center on Monday following the medical scare and had been in the ICU.
The GoFundMe for Hensley had surpassed $170,000 as of Thursday afternoon.
