Lewis Hamilton Sends Apology After Hearing Back Dutch GP Radio Messages

Lewis Hamilton has responded to his radio outbursts after having watched the F1 Dutch GP, as he praises Ferrari’s push while admitting it was not his best version.

It is not often that Hamilton flares up on radio like some other F1 world champions on the grid. But Dutch GP was a little different after his multiple messages, even going sarcastic about ‘great job in wasting time’. In the battle for a podium at least, he was stuck behind Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc.

It cost him valuable time, as he eventually couldn’t get the better of Mercedes’ George Russell for third. Post-race, Hamilton compared how his former team handled a swap at ease to his own, where a delay of one lap cost them points and a potential podium finish.

Ferrari F1 team principal Frederic Vasseur played down the antics, noting that their idea was to go to end on the hard compound, which they didn’t wish to convey on the radio to Hamilton at that juncture. Also, he noted that the Leclerc delay of pit stop happened only for one lap.

Russell’s F1 sprint win plus third place got him second again in the F1 drivers’ standings but tied on 183 points with Hamilton. The seven-time champion, however, took to social media to notify his thoughts after watching back the Dutch GP and listening his radio messages to the team.

Hamilton admitted that it was not best version of him and will do better the next time. He cites his passion and deep care for a moment of adrenaline rush. He had full praise for the efforts and commitment from Ferrari to push itself at the front, in title battle against Mercedes and McLaren.

“A tough weekend, but we leave with valuable points for the team and signs that we’re moving in the right direction,” wrote Hamilton. “I’m incredibly proud of everyone back at the factory who continues to bring updates, find performance and push us forward. To the team at the track, thank you. The commitment and effort never go unnoticed.

“We still have work to do, particularly over one lap, but we’ll keep digging in, learning and improving together. I’ve listened back to some of my radio and TV comments. In the heat of the moment frustration can come out, especially when you care as deeply as I do. But that wasn’t the best version of me. I take responsibility for that, and I’ll be better.

“That passion comes from believing in this team, the people in it, and what we’re building together. The direction is clear. The belief is there. And the fight is absolutely still on. Thank you for sticking with us and with me. We’ll keep building, keep pushing and keep fighting. We’re coming.”
