The gap between the contenders and rest of the league continues to grow. Before the league resumes today with the Pumas vs Querétaro game, let’s see what happened in week three, shall we?

A brief recap

Cruz Azul bounced back against Atlante with a 3-1 win.

Pachuca beat Pumas 3-1, registering their first win of the season and Charlyn Corral tallied her first goal in this tournament.

Toluca drew against Atlas (1-1) with a goal scored by Eugénie Le Sommer and that makes seven points in three matches, with six goals scored.

Tijuana crushed Necaxa 5-1. Kader Hancar scored a hat trick, and Jaquelin García and Trudi Carter also scored. That win puts them back in the top four in Group B.

Querétaro won 1-0 against León – their first win of the tournament.

The top four

Club América is playing on another level. They already have 18 goals in three games this season, which is outstanding. Puebla, the team they faced in week three, has been the only one capable of scoring on them so far (5-1). They have been completely overwhelming and that confirms their status as favorites to take it all this season.

Week 3 goalscorers were Montse Saldívar, Priscila, Alexa Soto, Geyse and Gaby García. The team’s outstanding production in the final third means they won’t have to worry about the absence of 19-year-old Saldívar, who has been called up for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with Mexico.

América’s number of goals has put Irene Guerrero and Geyse at the top of the table with players with the most assists:

Tigres is always a contender and even though they might be under América’s shadow this season, they’ve gotten nine points out of nine. In the last match, they won 1-0 through the goal scored by Alexia Delgado in the 69th minute against Juárez.

The win wasn’t impressive but it’s a win in the end. Regarding news, Jenni Hermoso left but they found her replacement in the Ghanaian midfielder Grace Asantewaa. Tigres also has Thembi Kgatlana back in training. With the addition of both players, the Amazonians are looking to cover for the absence of the Spanish player.

Chivas hasn’t been flashy and fans are still angry at the way the team has been handled in the offseason, but they keep producing results.

In the last week, they beat Atlético de San Luis 3-1, amassing 10 goals while conceding four. Worth mentioning is Joseline Montoya, who has scored four goals in three games.

What about Rayadas? Same as Chivas, they have gotten three wins in three games. The last match against Santos finished with a 4-1 result. Jermaine Seoposenwe, Lucía García and Marcela Restrepo were the goalscorers, with the fourth tally being an own goal.

The bottom of the table

Three teams haven’t won any of their games and two of them are remain at the starting point with zero points. Those teams are Puebla, Necaxa and Atlas, although the latter has two draws. Who’s the one with the worst record so far? Puebla. They conceded 17 goals and have a -15 goal difference.

No wonder Necaxa’s Fátima Bracamonte is the leader of defensive actions in this tournament:

Una actuación que dejó huella y demostró que defender también es una forma de brillar. 🛡️✨
