Anyone who has been a longtime Detroit Lions follower knows it's not an easy road. The Lions are one of the few teams in the NFL that have never gone all the way. They've never even been to a Super Bowl, let alone won one.
It's not unusual for a Lions fan to wonder if they'll ever live to see a day when the Lions get to the championship. But, Lions fans have still stuck with their team, through thick and thin. The Motor City loves their sports, and the Lions are certainly a favorite.
If you need proof, just look at the turnout for the Lions' preseason game on Saturday against the Washington Commanders. This is just the preseason. It's football that doesn't really mean anything. But, a stat from that game is downright incredible.
Lions fans turn out in a big wayThe Lions won their preseason matchup against the Commanders, with a final score of 17-13. They obviously aren't getting a trophy for it, but they can be happy knowing that people were watching.
According to official Lions team reporter Tim Twentyman, attendance at Ford Field was 50,042 for a preseason game. He shared the news in a post on X from the game, stating, "Lions fans are something else."
Just think about that. More than 50,000 people in attendance for a game that means pretty much nothing. The Lions don't even have a hot position battle going like some teams in the NFL, such as the Cleveland Browns or Las Vegas Raiders. It just shows that the Detroit Lions' fan base is for real, and they'll cheer for this team no matter what.
