After another meeting this Tuesday, discussions between PSG and Liverpool remain stalled over the transfer of Bradley Barcola. Paris is totally relaxed about this situation.
PSG and Liverpool spoke again for part of the day this Tuesday in an attempt to make progress on Barcola's transfer. The French winger did not want to risk officially declaring that he wanted to leave PSG, but he sent two very clear signals.
His refusal to extend his contract is one thing, and his agreement in principle on a future contract with the Reds is another. But an agreement between the two clubs is still far off, The Athletic reveals, as PSG wants at least 145 million euros, and Liverpool does not intend to go beyond 115 million euros.
PSG has already lowered its demands once to make this transfer easier for the Merseyside club to digest, so Barcola would not be the most expensive player in its history. Last year, Alexander Isak signed from Newcastle for 146 million euros.
Each side is standing its ground, and that does not allow for concrete progress. However, PSG is totally calm and considers itself in a position of strength. Luis Campos pointed out this weekend that big stalled transfers get unblocked in the final hours of the transfer window, as with Gianluigi Donnarumma and his departure for Manchester City in the summer of 2025.
The Portuguese sporting director is convinced that the deal will happen, and that everything will accelerate in the final hours of the last day.
Not really reassuring for Liverpool, which has a lot at stake if it falls through and feels the pressure rising, knowing PSG isn't bending.
According to TEAMTalk, this Tuesday's meeting did not allow for concrete progress on a financial structure and a transfer fee, mainly serving to keep in contact. The English club would like to confirm quickly that a transfer can be finalised by next Tuesday. And if not, to find a Plan B to avoid being left empty-handed.
In other news, PSG made their way back to the Campus PSG at Poissy (training centre) on Monday morning for its traditional day-after-match session, following the 2-2 draw at Rennes on Sunday. Paris will play again this Friday night at Lille, the day after the Champions League league-phase draw.
