Liverpool must pay £80m to land Brighton forward Yankuba Minteh

Liverpool have been told that Brighton & Hove Albion attacker Yankuba Minteh is worth £80 million, according to Jacobs Ben.

The Reds have made two offers for the Gambian forward, both rejected, including a £60m bid.

However, Liverpool will have to offer more to land Minteh, which, per the report, the Merseyside club isn’t willing to do.

Liverpool will only come back to the negotiating table if they lower their fee.

The Reds are desperate to bolster the right flank following the departure of Mohamed Salah.

They tried landing Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye but have been deadlocked in negotiations for weeks. Even then, Barcola is not a natural right-winger.

Andoni Iraola’s side turned their attention to Minteh, who bagged three goals and four assists (11 big chances created) in 34 Premier League appearances.

Paying £80 million for a player who has never delivered up to 10 Premier League goals or assists in a season would be wild.

It is even more bizarre when you consider Minteh is currently sidelined until November.

Liverpool need to strengthen their right flank, but desperation cannot become an excuse for overpaying.

Minteh has potential, pace and unpredictability, but his Premier League numbers do not justify a fee of this magnitude.

For that kind of money, Liverpool should be demanding proven quality and immediate impact.

Minteh may eventually develop into an excellent winger, but paying a superstar fee for potential while the player is injured is an unnecessary gamble.

The Reds have already shown they will not meet Brighton’s demands. They should stick to that stance and walk away unless the asking price drops dramatically.
